Kyra Meyer

  • LEND Social Work Trainee

Kyra Meyer is a 2nd-year student in the Master of Social Work program with a certificate in Children, Youth, and Families at the University of Pittsburgh. A Buffalo native, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as a minor in Sociology and a certificate in Leadership. Prior to LEND, Kyra worked at a therapeutic preschool with the nonprofit Family Resources in Pittsburgh. In this role, she worked with children with mental health diagnoses and histories of trauma to teach social-emotional skills, model healthy relationships, and support academic learning. Kyra also worked as an intern for Macedonia FACE, where she provided support related to housing, utilities, community socialization, and early literacy initiatives for people living in the Hill District of Pittsburgh.

In addition to LEND, Kyra is currently an intern at Wesley Family Services. Through this organization, she assists individual and group programs that provide interventions to children with autism spectrum disorder. She also volunteers at the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh to split her time between her passion for working with children and her love of animals! As a LEND trainee, Kyra hopes to increase her knowledge base of neurodevelopmental disabilities and heighten her skills to become a more effective social worker. She is also excited to bolster her advocacy and empowerment skills to uplift people with disabilities in all facets of life.
